Great artisan breads

In a bit of a digression from wine, I hope that highlighting great producers, shops and other foodie type things might be worthwhile two – and this is the first – a bakery based in North Somerset.

Pullins Bakery are based in the small town of Yatton in North Somerset but have two other shops in Clevedon as well as being available at places like the wonderful Brockley stores. We tried a number of breads – all really good – Stromboli is made with sunblush tomatoes, red onions, local cheddar, mushrooms and herbs – it’s terrific and makes a great lunch in its own right.

Others we tried and really liked were their sourdough loaf and their fantastic 18 hour ferment “Overnight” White – seems like a bit more than overnight – but the flavour and texture were brilliant.

Pullins have been around since 1925 – and many of the breads they make are still made the way they always have – and it shows – whilst lots of new artisan bakers are springing up – Pullins have been doing it for over 85 years.
